In 2008 the Lord shook up my life and sent me on a completely different career path. I started school at New England Institute of Technology as a student in their surgical technology program. I’d spent 23 years working in child care. This was a big change! I have noticed similarities between the two fields though. PPEs and cross contamination for a couple of examples. When changing diapers gloves must be worn and disposed of properly, hands washed. There’s a particular way things soiled with bodily fluids must be bagged for disposal or sending home with the family. At the sterile field we wear gowns and gloves and avoid touching anything not sterile and all the used instruments must be transported in a particular way. Grumpy toddlers…grumpy surgeons. Just kidding. Kind of!
The operating room is a very unique environment as I’m sure those of you who are OR nurses or techs can agree. It’s been quite an adventure with lots of ups and downs. Am I happy I followed this path the Lord sent me on? Yes, I am. And that’s what this blog is about. Sharing experiences both good and bad, amusing and heartbreaking. I love what I do and can’t wait to tell you all about it!
